Learning Foreign Language Is Fun!

Educational researchers usually blame study curriculum which lacks diversity in learning approaches. Indeed, the schools are so restricted in time to teach that teachers are able to only give the basic knowledge which inevitably includes routine learning of vocabulary and grammar. Lack of time to teach foreign language using funny and interesting activities is the main reason why children usually resist their parents’ and teachers’ attempts to explain the importance of foreign languages knowledge. In this case many additional educational programs such as games, cartoons and movies would be the perfect way to attract children to learning language process.

Such fun and entertaining programs can be used for after schooling time and, therefore parents are to be responsible for finding and providing their children with them. These programs are divided into two groups because they are developed according to the children’s interests. As most children spend their free time either watching TV or playing computer games, there are computer learning games and TV cartoons and movies specially developed as language courses for children.

Such learning programs have two main advantages: they can easily attract children’s interest in learning process; and they are able to create a real immersive environment which cannot exist in monolingual environment. The feeling of diversity which is available from computer games and cartoons would take children’s minds into the different world with another culture and traditions. Children feel they are discoverers of the new world and are willing to find more about this unknown world. While being more and more absorbed in discovering new world children develop the interest to meet this world in real environment. This interest could solve the problem of explaining children the importance of learning foreign language. Living in monolingual society children could hardly understand what they would need foreign language for: nobody around is speaking it; neither they have to use it in their daily life. Children’s introduction to another language world would help them perceive the necessity of learning another language.

Learning computer games and TV cartoons and movies with foreign language courses are the demonstrative tools which help children comprehend new world best.
