Step Son Diagnosed Schizophrenic?
what are the common drugs/ treatment for schizophrenia in a 17 YO male patient. I am not on terms with his mother, but his illness directly affected my kids. He accused my 18 YO daughter with all sorts of awful stuff. Come to find out it was all dilusional. His mother doesnt want to medicate. something about too much money. I am afraid for him and our family. At this time he is not allowed antwhere near me or my minor children. That is untill or unless he continues to get help.
This is a very serious illness and needs to be treated. There are plenty of opportunities for people with no financial resources to be taken care of with this disorder.
No one out there wants an untreated schizophrenic running around out there. You should love the kid but indicate that if the mother is not going to have him treated that you plan on notifying the proper authorities. You should not have this young man in your home untreated either.
This illness used to be something where a person was hospitalized for life. It is only since the onset of medications that stabilize schizophrenics have become widely available did they let them go home and live a relatively normal life.
Hello Oh no. My nephew was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. It is so important that your step son receives the proper treatment. One should not think about the money but about the health of that teenager. Schizophrenics perceive things that normal people can`t. For this reason I totally understand why you don`t want your children to be around him. I am not a doctor so I can`t “prescribe” a medicine. However I have heard that Zyprexa is for schizophrenia. But it is important that a doctor finds the right med for him, since medicines work differently in different people. Good luck!
There is a medication called Abilify, which is used to treat Schizophrenia and Bi-polar disorder. Your stepson’s mother needs to be more concerned with her child’s well being than with the cost of his medication!!! He NEEDS to be medicated…it is the only way he can get some relief from his delusions and his condition will only get worse the longer he goes without the proper meds…would she rather have money in her pocket or her son in a mental facility or, worse, dead by his own hand or responsible for harming someone else due to his delusions? Would she be complaining she didn’t want him medicated if it was Chemotherapy he needed, which is outrageously expensive? She should be turned in for child neglect if she doesn’t provide the medication he needs!!!
Some good answers. Also, see schizophrenia, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 7, where there are treatments not based on psychopharmaceuticals, so she can’t use that as an excuse.
